Our Team

We believe that memories begin at a table surrounded by family, friends, and lots of laughter; a table that seems to invite you to sit down and relax, where you can enjoy a meal that makes you feel at home.

      Robin Getchell-Smith

I have worked in the catering industry for many years. When we moved to the Adirondack region of New York and realized the opportunity here, I was so excited. I have run my business with integrity and a real personal touch. Always striving to create the event my clients have dreamed of. Each of our clients are unique. It is my job to work with each of them and create an event that speaks to who they are and celebrates their style.  Commitment to detail and a personal touch, creating menus that make our clients feel as though they are “at home” are our goals.  We look forward to serving you, your family, and your friends soon.

      Mark Smith

I am Robin’s right-hand man (and a huge Phish fan, just had to add that in!).  Robin works with clients to plan the perfect menus and events.  I am there to make sure we have everything we need to make those visions come to life.  We are always looking for that next big idea to make our company stand out.  The Bar Car (our awesome renovated vintage trailer) came to life in the summer of 2015 and has been a hit ever since! Our kitchen trailer (born in the summer of 2017) makes it possible to go just about anywhere.  We are able to bring a full kitchen on-site when required, decorated with bistro lights and our logo!  It’s Amazing!! We love chatting with our clients about their vision because it inspires so many creative ideas.

As owners, we feel incredibly lucky to have such a talented and supportive team that is focused on making sure each event runs flawlessly, and that each client and their guests are well taken care of. Please meet our amazing Deliciously Different team members...

      Taylor Ravreby

Taylor joined the Deliciously Different team as our Client Experience Manager in September 2020 . Since the age of 14, she has been working in the Hospitality industry in one way or another.

Taylor attended Endicott College in Massachusetts, where she majored in Hospitality with a concentration in Event Management. After graduating, she spent some time traveling and living in MA before moving back to Upstate New York.

In her role as Client Experience Manager, Taylor enjoys getting to know each and every client on a personal level by working closely with them from start to finish. She is happy to assist with any and all things event related, whether it is finding the perfect linen napkin or providing Day-of planning and coordination, she is there to help!

With a passion for wine, beer, and craft cocktails, she also takes pleasure in selecting the wines for each season and coming up with fun and creative ways to incorporate the clients’ specific tastes/preferences into their bar menu. Her extensive experience in the industry and attention to detail makes Taylor an invaluable asset to our team and our clients.

      Lori Green

One of our founding staff members, Lori brings with her a great knowledge of the food industry, as a manager and server.  After meeting Lori at one of our local restaurants, we just knew she needed to be part of the Deliciously Different team!  Her knowledge of the industry is priceless!  She can adapt to any situation on site and is able to step in wherever she is needed.

Her personality is the perfect fit for Deliciously Different. She is able to handle anything that is thrown her way.

      Rachael McMahon

Rachael is an insurance professional and has worked in the bar industry for 9 years. In 2018, she found herself missing the creative outlet mixology provided in the bar business. She started working with Deliciously Different after meeting Robin through networking and decided bartending weddings was a great way to utilize her skills behind the bar without giving up her career. Rachael enjoys crafting specialty cocktails for our couples and their guests on their wedding day.  She is the perfect addition to our team, providing a fun and energetic vibe at events.  Rachael will ensure that your custom bar experience is flawless!

      Susan

Susan began her professional cooking career in Saratoga Springs, NY, in 1993, and has been “cheffing” from coast to coast ever since. Susan has provided private/personal chef services to high profile clients in entertainment, sports & technology industries. She has also successfully owned/operated a natural foods restaurant in Greenwich, NY., & is currently a recipe developer for one of the nation’s top women fitness trainers.

Susan has taught countless cooking classes, health workshops and retreats. Her formal education includes studies at The Kushi Institute where she honed her knife skills, and the Living Proof Institute for a deep dive mentorship in functional nutrition. She also holds a certification in Metabolic Type Testing. This has inspired her to create her signature “9 Week” program which enables clients to lose weight, reduce inflammation & overall, feel amazing!

We are so pleased to have Chef Susan on our team.  Having her share her talents with us as well as our community is so exciting.

      Brandon Schatko

Brandon,a native of Detroit, Michigan, there he worked with the area’s top chefs, rising quickly through the ranks of Detroit’s burgeoning food scene, to become one of Motor City’s youngest Executive Chefs at age 20. At the age of 26 Brandon was named Best Chef—2016 by the Detroit Metro Times.

Since then, Brandon has found his way to Upstate NY. He had the title and job, but was eager to develop his skills and experience.  Brandon also was itching to connect more with nature, so landing the position with The Whiteface Lodge in Lake Placid, was a great fit. Just a few days after accepting the award for best chef he moved to the adirondacks. He has also worked with Mazzone Hospitality honing in on his catering skills, also at Plumb Oyster Bar in Troy.   More recently, he is proud to say, he helped open Walt and Whitman Brewing located in Saratoga Springs where he learned much about himself as well as his style of cooking.

Brandon, being part of a tight knit, though somewhat extended, Polish/Italian/American family was the start of his  culinary journey & gained a love of cooking. Brandon describes his cooking style as “a little bit country, and a little bit Rock ‘n Roll”.

We are so happy to have Brandon be part of Deliciously Different. His interest in baking as well as cooking is just the perfect fit as we open our new location. We are super excited to have his support and introduce him to our local community.

      MORE ABOUT US

      Where are you from?

We both grew up on Long Island. Robin grew up in Babylon. She loved growing up in that amazing small town. Mark grew up in Rocky Point and his family still lives in that area.  We moved to the Glens Falls area of NY in 2006 and now reside in Queensbury.

Where are some of your favorite places?

Camping with our family holds some of our most fond memories. We own an Airstream now, which we love, but when our children were young, our best memories were in the broken-down old trailers we had out on the beaches of Long Island. Montauk beach camping was our favorite thing to do with the family! Maybe that’s where the idea for our bar car came from!

What do you love most about where you live now?

Mark and I do love this area and are so happy to be surrounded by the beauty of this amazing place.  We love boating, hiking, skiing and anything to get us outside. Our time is limited in the nice weather, but we do make the most of our free time, taking advantage of relaxing on the lake even if it is just for a sunset cruise on a beautiful summer evening.

What is your favorite part of catering events?

Our favorite part of working on events is our initial meeting with our new clients. At this moment, most of our potential clients seem overwhelmed with the daunting tasks for their upcoming event. After our initial meeting, it is like a sigh of relief for our clients! Our clients always seem to take a deep breath and realize they have come to the right kitchen. Having our clients leave our office with such complete confidence in what we can create is priceless!

What kind of events does Deliciously Different cater?

We cater all types of events. Weddings, social celebrations, corporate events, and many more.  If it’s a celebration or gathering, we’d love to work with you!

Do you have sample menus and what is your pricing?

We create custom menus for each and every event based on your style, favorite foods, and preferred price-point. Contact us if you’re interested and we’re happy to provide a custom quote for you.

      What are your favorite flowers?

      Tulips!

      Coffee or tea?

Robin is coffee – unless I’m under the weather then tea: plain!

Mark is coffee – always coffee!

      What are your favorite foods?

Our favorite food are the ones that we are sharing with family and friends.  Everything tastes better when shared or created by those closest to us.
