Sometimes finding the perfect venue for your wedding is as easy as stepping into your own backyard (or your wonderful childhood home filled with all those loving memories)! With the rise of intimate weddings and a desire for highly personalized events, we’re also seeing more couples choosing private homes for their wedding celebrations.
If we’re putting it all on the table, we have to say, we’re big fans of this movement! Not to sound sappy, but what’s not to love about gathering your closest friends and family members together in the comfort of your own home to create lifelong memories?
In our opinion, there are more pros than cons, in this option. But ultimately, it isn’t up to us, it would be for you to decide. Of course, we are here to help!
Is a backyard wedding is right for you?
Here are a few things to keep in mind:
Flexibility! There is no denying that a wedding day at a private home or estate means you don’t have anyone else’s restrictions affecting your decisions. This presents an amazing opportunity to use your space in a variety of ways and have fun planning the set-up of the event. Where will
your beautiful lounge area be? How about that super cute photo booth under your favorite maple tree? Oh, the possibilities!
Ease. No worries about where to stay, how to get there, or concerns about shuttling yourself back and forth, being late because of traffic, etc. You can rest easy and celebrate in the comfort of home! Having kids or pets at your wedding? When they’re tapped out from the festivities, you know just where to send ’em! I can’t think of anything better than being surrounded by the beautiful photos and comforts that have made my house a home, what about you?
No restrictive time limits. Want to set-up for three days, sure, go ahead! Want to party for 8 hours, yep, you can do that too. This is one of our favorite things because we have ample preptime and the ability to serve outside of the typical timeframe set by a venue.
Set your own date. This goes back to flexibility and no restrictive time limits. You don’t have to worry about a property’s availability. You choose the date, the time, everything is within your control.
Rentals. Having to bring in all of the items required to host a large event can seem taxing. My advise, hire a great planner to tackle all of these items for you! Done, the negative is now a positive. Also, remember, with the cost you save from renting a venue, this could very well be added to the pros list!
Parking. In most cases, a private home isn’t set-up to handle loads of cars. So you may have to consider a valet or shuttle service to help with the flow of traffic. Ahem, this is where the planner comes in again.
Noise disturbance. Depending on the size of your property, you may need to get clearance from your neighbors or a permit to host the event. This is pretty easy to solve, either make sure they are all invited, or make sure they receive a wonderfully expensive bottle of wine as a “Thank you for understanding” gift. Perfect!
We absolutely love working to create an unforgettable experience for our clients in the comfort of their own homes. If you’re planning to host your big day at home (or at a private estate), we’d love to work alongside you!
